The entrance to Point Loma along Harbor Drive has undergone a major transformation that's sure to catch the eyes of residents and visitors alike.
The newly expanded Holiday Inn Bayside, next to the Port of San Diego's America's Cup Harbor, recently completed a $13 million renovation.
This project represents one of the first hotel expansions in San Diego in recent years. The first guest checked in on Friday, July 5, 2013.
The newly constructed four-story hotel tower, located at 4875 North Harbor Drive in San Diego, features:
Positioned in front of the building is a spectacular piece of public art. The artwork is a metal sculpture titled "Intersect", produced by San Diego artist Matt Devine. The sculpture is complemented with drought-resistant landscaping by Parterre Landscape Architecture.
The architect on the expansion project was Joseph Wong Design Associates.
The tower expansion supports approximately 30 new jobs.

The Port of San Diego welcomes two new commissioners representing the City of San Diego. Rafael Castellanos and Marshall Merrifield took the oath of office Monday, April 15, 2013, at the Port of San Diego Administration Building.
"I am pleased to welcome these two community leaders to the Board of Port Commissioners, where they will provide valuable expertise and perspective as we continue to pursue integrated planning for public access, commerce, development and other activities taking place along our waterfront," said Chair Ann Moore of the Board of Port Commissioners. "I look forward to working with them as a steward of our Big Bay."
The Port is governed by a seven-member board, of which three members are appointed by the City of San Diego and one each is appointed by the cities of Coronado, Chula Vista, National City and Imperial Beach.

The Port of San Diego is pleased to announce the appointment of
Robert "Bob" DeAngelis as Chief Financial Officer/Treasurer. DeAngelis
will begin his new role immediately, overseeing Financial Services and
Accounting as well as the Port's Business and Information Technology
Services.
He succeeds Jeff McEntee, who is retiring in May after 25 years of stellar service with the Port of San Diego. McEntee has held the CFO/Treasurer role since 2001.
The Port conducted a nationwide search for this key position and considered a highly qualified pool of applicants before making this appointment.
DeAngelis is moving to San Diego from Utah, where he was a Senior Vice President, Operations Reporting at Teleperformance, an international business provider of customer service and technical support. His prior experience included CFO for a Teleperformance subsidiary, Vice President, Finance for Dexpo.com and working at one of the "Big Four" accounting firms, KPMG, all in the Philadelphia area.

"In an effort to strengthen its security role for the Port of San Diego, the Harbor Police Department has formed a new training partnership with its fellow law enforcement officers at the Port of Los Angeles.
Harbor Police Chief John Bolduc will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Chief of the Port of Los Angeles Port Police Department, Ronald J. Boyd, on Friday, April 5, at 11 a.m. The signing ceremony will be held at the Harbor Police Department's Shelter Island substation, 1401 Shelter Island Drive in San Diego.
The Port of Los Angeles, in partnership with the State of California Emergency Management Agency and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, has developed the country's first Maritime Training Course, known as the Regional Maritime Law Enforcement Training Center. It was specifically designed to train state and local law enforcement personnel".
