Several people have mentioned how much more crowded Coronado seems this year. It does seem jam-packed to me, a little more than usual. Arizona visitors have told me that AZ has received a heavy dose of advertising from the Hotel del. Thought I'd look it up and came across this Hotel del commercial from a few years ago that makes ME want to come to Coronado. So many beautiful people!
CORONADO, CA (July 8, 2013) - Coronado is asking for the community's help. An online survey has been created that will aid the City in finding out how effectively municipal services are being delivered to our residents, businesses and visitors.
The survey is part of the City of Coronado's Technology Strategic Plan, which will help enhance the City's business functions and service delivery. Coronado wants to know what you think about the services it provides, over the counter and online.
The City recognizes the great value that Information Technology and the web afford the City in meeting the needs of the community. Your feedback is essential in helping the City of Coronado define a customer-centric Technology Strategy Plan. The survey should take 5-10 minutes of your time. The survey will be in place for two weeks.

A family member sent me this email detailing what ordering a pizza on the phone could look like in the near future. It's hilarious, but with current events as they are, it may not be so much funny but an actual look into our future. The video was put together by the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union) and if you click on "Want to stop this from happening? Take Action!" on the last screen, it goes to their site.

This rather long video is a result of once-per-second images taken of the July 2013 Chariot Fire on Mt. Laguna via a stationary HPWREN camera. The camera had been provided by SDG&E. The video is slightly sped up, but still shows a lot of details on fire progression, air drops, and dozer work. Different fire progression effects are much easier visible by substantially speeding up the video even further.
It's 52 minutes long (kind of lengthy unless your coffee today is REALLY good) but you can speed through it by moving the red line to the right. I just have one comment . . . Fire is spooky stuff.

As the Chariot fire mushrooms in the East County, now is the time to add the SD Emergency app to your smartphone if you haven’t already. You’ll get information about evacuations, road closures, emergency shelters and more.
The app is free and takes just a few minutes to download. It can also help you create a personal preparedness plan or update your current one.

For the rest of the information, read "Be Smart, Get the SD Emergency App".

The City of Coronado's news release from last week stated:
"The Coronado City Council agreed to fund the free Summer Shuttle bus service from July 5 through September 30. The cost is $54,000. The local MTS 904 bus will be converted into the free summer shuttle bus, which will serve the area between the Civic Center and the Coronado Island Marriott Resort & Spa, including the Coronado Ferry Landing. MTS will continue its financial support for the existing 904 route.
Each bus will be "wrapped" with special graphics that promote Coronado and the most popular shuttle destinations such as the Hotel del Coronado, Historic Downtown, Ferry Landing and the Marriott. Special bus stop signs will be installed and promotional material will be made available to local hotels and businesses to promote the free shuttle.
Two Summer Shuttle buses are being outfitted with the wrap design and will run every 30 minutes from 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. seven days a week, with an extra hour on Friday and Saturday nights. The Summer Shuttle doubles the frequency of the current 904 bus service route. The new service provides four more hours of daily service to the 904 route by beginning one hour earlier and remaining in operation three hours later.
The free service begins Friday, July 5th.
This shuttle was in service less than a week!
