Master Class Series With Don Gregory

 

Beginning on Tuesday, June 4th, Don Gregory will launch CAC’s “Master Class Series” with an in-depth series of classes, dubbed “The Inside Scoop: Broadway, Film and Television From the Inside Out.” Geared toward all aspects of the industry, Gregory will share his vast, behind-the-scenes knowledge of writing, acting, producing, set design, auditioning, and more, in an intimate setting and plenty of one-on-one interaction. 

 

It will be an intense and informative four-weeks, consisting of eight three-hour classes, for a cost of $225. Classes will be held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:00 to 6:00 PM in CoSA’s Black Box Theatre in the Coronado High School Performing Arts Center, 650 D Avenue, Coronado. Some scholarships will be available. The class will be limited to twenty committed individuals, who are serious about their careers on either side of the camera or the footlights.

Coronado Woman's Club Hosts Shredding Event This Saturday

 

 

 

This Saturday, April 27th, the Coronado Woman's Club is having another "Fight Identity Theft Shredding Event" from 9 a.m. - Noon. The event takes place in the Union Bank parking lot at 8th and Orange, closest to D Avenue.


All proceeds benefit the scholarship fund for college bound, graduating senior girls. Bring those personal papers to be shredded and WATCH as the shredder cross cuts every speck of paper. The cost is a mere $7 a box, bag or whatever you can carry in. Hope to see you on Saturday. An Evening With Legendary Theatre And Film Producer Don Gregory And U-T Theatre Criter James Hebert

 

Patterned after Bravo Channel’s popular “Inside the Actors Studio,” the Coronado Cultural Arts Commission proudly presents “An Evening With Don Gregory” on Friday, May 10, 7:00 PM in the Winn Room of the Coronado Public Library, 650 Orange Avenue. The program is free and open to the public, on a first-come, first-seated basis.

 

The effusive, “larger-than-life” Gregory, successful Broadway and Hollywood producer and Coronado resident, will occupy the “guest’s chair,” with San Diego Union Tribune Arts writer/ theatre critic James Hebert asking the questions from the “interviewer’s chair.”

 

Hebert will have no shortage of subjects to cover in the life and times of Don Gregory, whose career spans 40 years and includes such smash hits as Broadway’s “My Fair Lady,” starring Rex Harrison, “Camelot” starring Richard Burton “Othello” starring James Earl Jones and Christopher Plummer, and “Clarence Darrow” starring Henry Fonda. Gregory’s most recent work, “Harvey,” with Big Bang Theory’s Jim Parsons in the title role, had a successful Broadway run last summer. Gregory, who owns the rights to the time-honored comedy featuring a man-sized rabbit, is currently in development with the motion picture of the same name.

 

The “Evening With Don Gregory” format, with two seasoned pros who “know the game” sitting across from each other and chatting informally, promises to be an evening not soon forgotten. Reservations are not necessary but seating is limited.

Coronado Arbor Day Celebration

Come Plant a Tree!!!

 

Looking for a hands-on volunteer opportunity? Please join the Coronado Street Tree Committee for National Arbor Day, Saturday, April 27, 2013. This event takes place in
Spreckels Park. Festivities begin at 8:30 a.m.

 

Approximately 30 trees will be planted on the public right-of-way throughout the streets of Coronado. Meet at the gazebo for sign-ups, refreshments and a planting demonstration to insure proper planting. All volunteers are welcome. Bring gloves and sturdy shoes for getting down and dirty. Tools provided. All children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Your participation in Arbor Day will be a significant way for you to show your commitment to the environment and your community. We hope to see you for this tree- mendous event. No reservation required. Show up and dig in. Contact information at Public Services: 522-7380.

San Diegan Gretchen Breuner’s book is about life lessons she and her children learned during a 3-month road trip around the US in a recently purchased used RV. Her husband had to remain home for work, so this was her responsibility, her dream. She pulled her three children, a 5th grader, a 4th grader and a kindergartner out of school for three months and would be home-schooling them. She had never home-schooled before, hardly driven the RV, but this was her dream and nothing could stop her. They logged 10,000 miles, saw more than 50 historical and national landmarks along the way, and had amazing adventures and experiences. There is something to “follow your dreams” but not too many people have the guts to do that.

 

It is a great and entertaining read.

Gretchen Breuner, a graduate from UC Berkeley, has lived in San Diego for over 13 years.  She is a successful Mom-prenuer having owned three previous businesses and is the current Owner and CEO of The RoadScholarz. The RoadScholarz has been featured in not only Parents Magazine but in a number of other online publications.  She is a guest blogger for a handful of sites, has participated in a number of philanthropic endeavors including having worked with Race to Nowhere and Pennies for Peace. She also served as the Event Manager for a 1000-person Central Asia Institute event aboard the USS Midway Museum in July 2010.


Additional recognitions include being nominated and serving on a local pre-school board, serving as chairperson for the Parent Teacher Association and being a middle school council member. In the campaign to improve current public educational standards, she has personally met with state legislators in Sacramento, and she has studied under the highly recognized and renowned Tony Robbins, Brendon Burchard, Bo Eason and Simon Mainwaring.

Save The Date—MotorCars On MainStreet—April 28th, 2013

 

Rain or shine—the twenty-third annual MotorCars on MainStreet will be held on Sunday, April 28th from 10am to 3pm. Note that the MotorCars event usually takes place the same weekend as the Coronado Flower Show (a very busy weekend), but this year the MotorCars Show will be the week after.

 

This show is a favorite of car enthusiasts and is sponsored by our own El Cordova Garage and Ron Baker Chevrolet of National City. Coronado MainStreet puts on a fine show and you won't want to miss it so mark your calendar now!

 

"Convertibles, roadsters, trucks, street rods and other custom rides — all of which rolled out of the factory before 1973 — gather at Isabella and Orange Avenues, one block from the beach, to flaunt their fancy paint jobs and meaty engines.

More than 400 entrants will compete for the title of Best in Show. Rock to live entertainment by The Cat-illacs and Scooby will spin Solid Gold Rock in Star Park. Entrants may register now using the 2013 MotorCars Registration Form. The fee is $35 per vehicle if registered before April 21st.

 

There is no fee to come and look at all the beautiful cars parked on Isabella Avenue and overflowing into Star Park.There will be live music and drawings, with a $200 Best Of Show prize and all the pride that accompanies it.

 

So plan to enjoy a fun-filled day on Sunday, April 28th, soaking up the sunshine while leisurely strolling around Coronado Island and looking at some of the finest classic cars around.
