The Cultural Arts Commission, one of Coronado newest and busiest Commissions, is at it again. This current undertaking is called “Art Under the Umbrellas”, a scaled-down version of what the CCAC hopes will grow into a much larger yearly event. As a first-time experiment, six local artists have been invited to bring a table, an umbrella, and, of course, their own art, to the Coronado Golf Course Restaurant from 10:00 AM to 2PM on Sunday, May 12, coinciding with the restaurant’s popular Mother's Day Brunch.
This could also be the perfect opportunity to purchase an original piece of art for the mothers in your life. Artist Tina Christiansen will have her delicate hand-painted scarves
on display; architect/artist Dale St. Denis will offer a selection of unique glazed ceramics and handmade jewelry; painter Jean Pierre Marques will show his mesmerizing paintings and gallery owner Linda Austin will present her own elegant jewelry. Completing the lineup will be the striking photography of Belle Mitchell Wood.
For information, contact Cultural Arts Commissioner Susan Enowitz, event chair, at susanevan@sbcglobal.net.
Enowitz, who retired last year as Executive Director of the Coronado Historical Association, would also like to remind everyone about CHA’s annual Coronado Historic Home Tour, scheduled to take place that same day, Mother's Day. For Home Tour tickets and information, please contact the Coronado Visitor Center.

As always, the MotorCars On MainStreet event was a huge success. For the first time, the event was held the week following the Coronado Flower Show, allowing attendees more time to stroll around and look at all the vehicles.
Coronado CAN (Community Association of Neighbors) entered a WWII 1944 original Jeep. It was a big hit as many veterans stopped by to share old war stories.
This is a photo of the Ridge family from Mission Valley enjoying a photo op in the WWII Jeep. David Ridge (the father) graduated from Coronado High School in 1989.
Coronado CAN had a booth set up next to the Jeep and many residents stopped by to chat and sign up as subscribers. Subscribers are sent the twice-monthly Coronado CAN email describing results of Council meetings, commission meetings and general information that residents might be interested in.
If you are interested in finding out more, you can read the Coronado CAN Brochure. If you would like to receive the bi-monthly email, subscribe to "The Residential Reporter".
