The City recently installed bicycle security pens on some Coronado downtown street corners for safe parking of bicycles. On July 18th, a bicycle with a child seat attached was secured in the pen at 10th and Orange, and the bicycle was soon stolen. It was said that the bicycle cost $1100. I would suppose that these pens have cameras installed nearby that keeps a photo record of what goes on in the pens so a thief can be identified, the bicycle can be retrieved, and the thief put put behind bars, especially after the City spent all of those Coronado citizen's $$$$ for these security pens!
Would you care to bet on the apprehension of the thief in this theft? Bicycle thefts are rampant in this city, and few if any apprehensions. WHY?
