My favorite number. Also the number of days until Coronado Common Sense goes silent.
On August 23, 2008, I began to publish this little "online newspaper" because I felt that there was not adequate coverage of what was going on in Coronado. At first I wrote seven days a week, and later dropped it to five days a week with a minimum of three items a day.
August 23rd will mark five years of writing . . . nearly 5,000 published items. And in that five years, things have changed. There is finally news about Coronado out there now.
So, with that said, I feel that I have accomplished my goal and it is time to fulfill some other goals that I have. That two to five hours I spend a night researching stories can now be spent on a book my kids have been asking me to write and allows more time for me to enjoy my new hobby of oil painting. And then there are those four horses whinnying my name!
So I hope that you have enjoyed the ride and will continue to do so for the last 24 days of Coronado Common Sense. Your readership has been greatly appreciated.

Thank you, Susan, for this wonderful gift to Coronado. You have helped to make our small town an even more wonderful place. I will miss Common Sense, but I look forward to seeing your future contributions.

CCS has been at the top of my must-read list over morning coffee for several years. So you're gonna be missed. But you did offer a much needed venue to voice news, ideas and concerns about our community and for that we owe you a huge thanks!
Enjoy all the grand adventures that await you! I'm sure we'll run into one another!

True, we have a lot of "news" mediums to entertain and educate us on the island these days. But I will miss Coronado Common Sense.
I have long felt that all the newspapers, magazines, ePublications, and blogs were distinctly different. Some provide feature reading, others news. Some offer daily traffic and weather alerts, others talk of Coronado history. And I valued that CCS was dedicated to covering a wide variety of news and features, while continuing to be a community watchdog - holding feet to the fire when necessary, adding light where there is shadow, and giving all the "squeaky wheels" on the island a forum from which to trumpet their concerns.
That should not be understated. This is a natural progression from the 1960s and '70s of seeing passionate squeaky wheels at City Hall every other Tuesday. People like Carol Cahill, Lulu Coleman, Bunny MacKenzie, Doris Pray, et al. They were a pain at times, but they fulfilled a valuable community service. As I said, they were the self-appointed watchdogs of our community. Every community needs that.
Please don't go away Susan.

Susan, your Coronado Common Sense, has made Coronado a more interesting place to live. People can express their thoughts and share their interests with others. Thank you for bringing us all together, not only as citizens of this fine city, but as friends as well.
You deserve a change, so you can spend more time with your horses, and things you have missed while making us more informed, and more appreciative of our being in Coronado.
I wish you well....

Susan:
You have provided a wonderful and diligent public service for an extended period without recompense, save the knowledge that your contribution has been truly meaningful. You also have the appreciation of all of your readers. These two things add up to a lot, more than might casually be realized. So while we mourn the end of a very good thing (and all good things must come to an end), we celebrate the very good thing that it has been, congratulate you on a job very well done, and wish you well as you move on to other challenges!
