Here are five reasons why civic-minded Coronado residents might be interested in attending the Glorietta Bay Marina “Dock C” Public Workshop when it is finally scheduled:
1. Because the only options city staff have proposed all include spending almost 3 million dollars of Coronado money to completely replace a dock where only 9 Coronado residents keep boats.
2. Because reasonable limits should be placed on the increasing extent to which Glorietta Bay is being “condominiumized” by boats that serve primarily as floating vacation homes for residents of, for example, Arizona and other Southern California cities, who do not pay Coronado property or even “transient occupancy” taxes (TOT).
3. Because it sets a dangerous precedent to take water areas that are officially designated as “Open Bay” (used for recreational boating), and redesignating them to become “Developable Water Area,” so that they may be built upon and then rented out for exclusively private use and financial gain.
4. Because public access to the water should be included as one of the criteria used to evaluate any new waterfront project, maybe in this case to include a public dock for the benefit of Coronado residents as well as visitors.
5. Because unique open water views of Glorietta Bay should not be obstructed by buildings or marinas any more than they already are, especially from the park between the City Hall and Community Center.
Our City needs to hear from residents in the planning for Dock C. Please attend the public workshop if you can. More detailed information on each of the points above can be provided to any resident sending an email to gloriettabayheritagegroup@gmail.com.

Absolutely all points well taken. We need to stop any attempt to misuse our beautiful Glorietta Bay by handing it over to private interests, thereby making it unavailable for public use for Coronado boating and water sports. Watch for the posting of the date for this workshop.
