Letter To The Editor: Coronado Should Enforce The Rules Against Smoking In Public Places

 

Coronado’s elected representatives and City executives should follow the lead of more progressive coastal towns by aggressively enforcing our current ordinances which prohibit smoking in public places (smoking is already prohibited on ALL publicly-owned property).  Several effective new ads are going out to communities from the CDC, along with research data proving that less smoke is good for business, especially at tourist destinations.

 

Coronado would be wise to set the standard for protection of our air and surrounding waterways.  We should have impeccably clean sidewalks, gutters, streets, parks and beaches with the goal of seeing no cigarette butts. 

 

Obvious rewards will be increased tourism, increased property values, lower costs of public services, and lower insurance rates.  And the health improvements and pride in our community:  PRICELESS!
