October 23, 2012 – The Port of San Diego has received a proposal for the donation of a 60-foot flagpole that would display the United States flag. The proposed location of the flagpole would be in an area of Centennial Park in
Coronado that is adjacent to the waterfront and within Port jurisdiction.
The public’s input is requested on the proposed donation, and a meeting will be held Monday, October 29, 2012 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Winn Room of the Coronado Public Library, 640 Orange Avenue, Coronado.
Miles Harvey, a Coronado homeowner, solicited a private donor for the proposed flagpole. Mr. Harvey will present the project concept at the meeting and attendees will be given the opportunity to voice input both orally and in writing. The purpose of the meeting is to learn about Mr. Harvey’s proposal and to obtain public input.
The proposed donation falls under the Board of Port Commissioners Policy No. 611- Receipt of Donations and Loans. Under this policy, the Port reviews and evaluates proposed donations of items or objects.
The Port is currently conducting a technical review of the proposal to evaluate its feasibility from the viewpoint of land use, engineering, environmental and maintenance considerations.
Following the completion and evaluation of the technical review and evaluation of public input, the proposed donation would be forwarded to the Board of Port Commissioners for review and consideration.
