Dear Readers . . .
I just got around to picking up last week's Coronado Eagle & Journal (December 8th). I enjoy reading the letters to the editor.
There were three letters discussing the Council rejection of a demo permit for the home at 1010 Glorietta. The letters were written by Rita Wack, John Hermann and George Morgan. Mr. Morgan was astonished that "the mayor and majority of city council voted for historical (hysterical) preservation."
Ms. Wack complimented councilmember Carrie Downey on her "courage and wisdom" to vote for allowing the demo permit. In my personal opinion, Wack and Morgan did not listen carefully to the oral communication. This home is up on the agenda of the State Historical Resources Commission (SHRC) and the owners postponed their agenda item from the previous meeting because they "needed more time." None of the writers mentioned this important fact. Had the Mayor and Councilmembers Denny, Ovrom and Woiwode voted to demolish the house, the house would have been long gone before the next SHRC meeting.
This is an issue for the State Historical Resources Commission to decide. If it is of no historical value as the owners declare, they will soon have their demo permit in hand. I applaud Mayor Tanaka and Councilmembers Denny, Ovrom and Woiwode and the community present at the meeting for true wisdom in attempting to retain the "Coronado Village atmosphere" and letting the State make the tough decisions.
Respectfully submitted,
Susan Heavilin
