Sound judgement or the ability to make intelligent decisions
CCS Mission Statement
Our mission is to inform Coronado citizens of community issues they may not have heard about,
to stimulate conversation and to allow Coronado citizens a “voice” to speak with through a response comment to an article or a “Letter to the Editor.”
This is a community “hands-on” newspaper that allows citizens to participate at will. We hope that you will enjoy it and share it with friends and family in the Coronado community.
On Tuesday, May 22nd, all kids are invited to a reading of "Where The Wild Things Are" in the Ruby Room at 3pm. Afterward, they can make a set of Wild Things. This is to celebrate the life of Maurice Sendak who passed away on May 8th, 2012.
Coronado SAFE invites incoming 7th and 8th grade girls to participate in the Sophia Camp for Girls and start the new school year with a sound mind, body and spirit. This female-only local day camp will take place Friday, August 17th through Sunday, August 19th and is specifically designed to provide young ladies with the tools and training they need to navigate their most transformational years. This weekend escape will help young women build self-esteem, manage stress, identify with others, and develop a strong sense of self-awareness through activities such as yoga, art, dance, meditation, and breathing and concentration exercises.
The Sophia Camp for Girls is led, sponsored and hosted by Laura Plumb—a local Ayurvedic counselor and founder of VedaWise and Sophia Circles. Registration is $175 per participant before June 1, and $225 after. Spaces are extremely limited and camp scholarships will be available to families who demonstrate a financial need. For more information or to register for the Sophia Camp for Girls, please contact Coronado SAFE at 619.522.6884 or Madison.Webb@CoronadoSAFE.org

Teens (7th - 12th Grade): We Need Your Help!
This is your chance to talk with adults and let them know what you think and how you feel. This is your chance to educate parents. Most of you will never get a chance like this again. Bring your friends for support! You can even receive volunteer hours for participating (Must stay the full hour-and-a-half).
Parents: Re-Learn Effective Ways of Communicating With Your Teen!
Bring the whole family for parenting expert Fred Becker’s 3-part seminar series that will help parents and teens better communicate with each other. In this one-of-a-kind series, teens (7th grade-12th grade) are invited to participate in small group discussions to help parents re-learn the art of effective communication. Participation in this series will teach you ways to re-connect to your kids during the often-trying adolescent years. Even parents of younger children will benefit from these discussions!
Free childcare will be provided for pre-school/elementary-aged children. To RSVP, please contact Madison Webb at 619-522-6884 or madison.webb@coronadosafe.org. Please indicate number/ages of children if childcare is needed.

"Thanks for the Candles. We've got a real headstart on the candles we recycle to use for our summer candle craft. Thanks to everyone who brought in their used candles.
There is something else we need that is very hard to find these days, coffee cans. We use the cans to melt the wax and the ones we've been using for years are wearing out. I know most coffee comes in plastic these days, but if you spot a coffee can, a peanut can or any other large metal can please snag it for the library."
The Library will be closed for the Holiday on Saturday, December 31 and Sunday, January 1. We will reopen on Monday, January 2.

Children's Magazines
The Coronado Library has a fine selection of magazines for children of all ages. For the youngest we have BABY BUG, SPIDER, LADYBUG, and CRICKET. Young scientists can choose from NATIONAL GEOGRAPHIC KIDS and RANGER RICK. Crafts and educational activities can be found in HIGHLIGHTS, TURTLE, and HUMPTY DUMPTY. History buffs can read COBBLESTONE, writers might like MUSE, and boys and girls can choose between BOY'S LIFE and AMERICAN GIRL. Next time you are in the library try a magazine.
Kids—seven to twelve—are invited to these outdoor activities which include walks, presentations, games, investigations, art and more! We meet each Saturday at 3:30pm. Kids can earn awards like pins, posters, and patches as they progress through the activities. We ask that a parent or guardian fill out a sign-up form for their children and remain in the park while their kids participate, in case of any emergency. Meet outside the lifeguard headquarters; just look for the tall tower on the ocean side of the highway. For more information, contact Heather Sanderson at hsanderson@parks.ca.gov or 619.823.5801.
