Michael Jackson (August 29, 1958 – June 25, 2009) was
an American musician and entertainer. One of the most commercially
successful recording artists of all time, his contributions to music
and dance, along with a highly publicized personal life, made him an
important part of popular culture around the world for four decades.
A double-inductee into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, his other achievements feature multiple Guinness World Records—including the "Most Successful Entertainer of All Time"—13 Grammy Awards, 13 number one singles, and the sale of over 750 million records. He was also a notable philanthropist, donating millions of dollars to the 39 charities he supported, and raising more through his own Heal the World Foundation. [Source: Wikipedia]
Since his untimely death, the media has dissected him and every aspect of his life as they often do. I personally liked it much better in days of yore when someone who had achieved great fame left this world in a shroud of mystery. Their demons were buried alongside them and only the stories of their vast creative gifts were retold and celebrated.
No one had ever seen what would soon become known as Michael Jackson's signature move, the "moonwalk." According to his brother Jermaine, Michael had witnessed some street dancers doing it and was a quick study. And in a performance in 1983, with the backstage packed with ex-Motown stars, Michael pulled this magical dance out of his bag of tricks in the middle of "Billie Jean." That one dance step crossed him over to a whole new audience and cemented Michael Jackson's crown as "The King of Pop" forever.
So with that said, my own children Anderson and Vanessa have brought to my attention something wonderful and positive that has emerged from this. Eternal Moonwalk is a tribute to MIchael Jackson. Someone has stitched together brief frames of people from around the world doing their best interpretation of Michael Jackson's "moonwalk." As one person or group slides out of the frame, another takes their place. Their names and locations are printed underneath. It goes on forever and is great fun to watch. You'll have close the window when you have tired because it is eternal.
Click on Eternal Moonwalk to watch the show. To see Anderson and Vanessa's frame, type 8746 in the [search for] box and click [go]. Their frame will read "Vanessa and Anderson - San Diego" and will appear within the next three frames. Enjoy!
