WHAT: Naval Base Coronado will host the annual Commander, Navy Region Southwest Culinary Competition.
WHY: The competition allows participants a chance to showcase their talents, creativity and culinary skills. The winner of the competition moves on to the Navy Installations Command Culinary Competition in Washington D.C.
WHEN: January 30, 2012 at 10 a.m. to 12 a.m.
WHERE: Naval Amphibious Base Coronado Galley (on the bay side)
Six two-person teams have two hours to prepare two entrees; with beef tenderloin and chicken. The secret ingredient will be announced on the day of the event. Judges will evaluate each dish on taste, knife work, cooking method, presentation and proper safety and sanitation. This year's judges are: Captain Yancy Lindsey, Commanding Officer of Naval Base Coronado; Executive Chefs Dorance Aldridge, Joaquin Cueva, Nydia Ekstrom and Celebrity Guest Chef "Sam the Cooking Guy".
